What is Site Publisher, and how to use it effectively?
You’ve found the perfect web host, and you’ve just been given your cPanel login details, but you’re overwhelmed by the next step… Getting your website online as soon as you can is the obvious choice, but content management systems such as WordPress and Drupal can often leave you feeling overwhelmed. In some situations, a simple, one-page website is all you’re looking for. A brand new feature from cPanel is about to answer all of your problems!
cPanel has just announced Site Publisher, a brand new feature to help bridge the gap between web design knowledge and easy-to-use content management systems, and allows one-click templates to help get your website online from the second you sign in. Below, we explain Site Publisher and what it means for you.
What is Site Publisher?
Site Publisher is a brand new feature included in cPanel version 56 onwards. It offers a quick and easy way to set up your first website straight out of the box without the need for any complex coding or javascript knowledge, meaning practically anybody can set up a website in seconds. There are no configurations and no installations, just a smooth set-up which takes just seconds to run through.
cPanel is used by millions of websites across the world, and this new feature will certainly help speed up the way building a website works.
How do I use it?
The best thing about Site Publisher is how easy it is to use. Simplylog into cPanel, click on Site Publisher, and then choose which domain name you’d like to set up with a website. You can then pick a template to use on your site, and by typing in a few simple messages like website name and a biography; you’ve got a website online in a matter of seconds!
Is it customisable?
Currently, cPanel is shipping Site Publisher with three default templates:
- a personal website to use if you’re self-employed or want an online portfolio
- a business website, which is fantastic for all small businesses who want to get their products or services online
- and an Under Construction page, which is handy for web designers who want to focus on their new website and want a great-looking Coming Soon page.
However, the fun doesn’t stop there. If you have root access to your website and WHM, like you do with our VPS plans, it’s possible to design and offer templates for your end-users or clients. Site Template designers have complete control and can even build their own user interfaces to aid the installation process, meaning there are endless opportunities for Site Templates through cPanel. Perhaps you’re running a small web hosting company and want to offer your clients an exclusive Site Template, or you’re running a network of websites and want a one-click install to give your websites a more uniform look? The possibilities are endless!
Is Site Template for me?
cPanel’s new one-click website install is user-friendly and convenient and allows you to build a basic website in a matter of seconds. However, if you want to build a more advanced website with multiple features, content management systems such as WordPress or Drupal may still be your best bet. At PAC, we offer Softaculous, which means you can install over 370 different website apps at the click of a button, including WordPress and Drupal, allowing you to spend your time using your apps, not installing them.
All our web hosting packages now have Site Publisher installed, so even if you want a more advanced experience, it could help you build a coming soon page, or you could pass it on to your clients giving them a new way to set up their websites.
